We’re supporting Sam’s Spares in reducing E-waste!
We here at Jaycar are always keen to support a good cause, and Sam’s Spares is one of the best; a charity based out of Gosnells, Western Australia, Sam’s Spares is saving unwanted E-waste from landfill and putting it in the hands of at need people in the community.
Samuel Thomas, an 18-year-old Autistic man with Tourette Syndrome, repairs and rebuilds computers, laptops, mobile phones and other electronics and gifts them freely to community members in need.
"Sam’s Spares began out of my combined passion for Electronics, Environment & Community. When considering the idea of Sam’s Spares I observed the following:
Companies now create their electronic products to be less repairable, more disposable and designed with self-obsolesce in mind.
Currently in Australia less than 18% of E-waste is properly recycled and & it contributes to over 70% of toxic chemicals found in landfill.
At Sam’s Spares we firmly believe in focusing on what we do well and letting others do the same with their passions. No one knows the needs of their community better than those serving them; so we pass on our items in our peer to peer network. The items are passed onto the agency and they in turn pass them on to their clients, this way Sam’s Spares can focus all their energy into E-Waste Recycling & Repairs.”
– Samuel Thomas
Our contribution will help keep Sam’s Spares up and running and enable them to keep giving to the community. Sam’s spares is moving forward with plans to expand their office to cater to the growing needs of their organisation, and we here at Jaycar are excited to see where Sam takes his charitable efforts in the future.
