Modern car engines are controlled by computers which regulate engine performance. Sensors are connected to major components which constantly send data to the computer which then adjusts performance accordingly to ensure minimal emissions and optimal performance. Reading data from these computers helps mechanics pinpoint where problems may lie in car performance. You can also find out this information with this OBD2 bluetooth engine code reader.

It connects to your OBD2 port and will immediately intepret the information in the ECU (enging control unit). You can use this information to find faulty sensors which adversely affect performance, see if cylinders are misfiring, see how hot your engine coolant is, view engine RPMs and much more.

Diagnosing and fixing certain problems yourself can save a lot of time and money. It's also fascinating to see how much engine information is readily available in modern cars.

How it works:
1. Connect to your OBD2 port (commonly found underneath to the right of your steering wheel)
2. Pair it with your smartphone, laptop, or tablet
3. Use software or app to monitor an array of engine parameters

Viewable parameters *
• Vehicle Speed
• RPM
• Fuel Consumption
• Engine Coolant Temp
• Fuel Pressure
• Calculated Engine Load
• Throttle Position
• Intake Manifold Pressure
• Air Intake Temp
• Timing Advance
• Mass Air Flow
• Fuel Level
• Barometric Pressure
• EVAP System Vapour Pressure
• Fuel Trim

* Not all measurements will be available in some cars, as not all car manufacturers will expose all car parameters.

Doesn't work with 2012 Nissan Leaf

Craig CowledMarch 2025

I bought this dongle to get real-time readings from my 2012 Nissan Leaf. Unfortunately, it simply doesn't work with Leaf Spy Pro or the standard Leaf Spy. A total waste of money. Internet searches have highlighted the fact that these new OBD2 dongles are not backwards compatible with old vehicles like mine. Very disappointed and $109 poorer.

works with Leaf Spy Pro

Works with Leaf Spy Pro on a 2012 Nissan Leaf. Four stars just because there are cheaper options but that's the price of not wanting to wait.

Works well

ae93gtiJanuary 2025

Have had a couple of these for more than 10 years over a variety of cars, they have worked flawlessly in that time and continue to work well. Seems pricey now though, sure it was about $30 when I bought it. For some cars, e.g., FZJ105 straight 6 land cruiser, you need to enter an advanced config string to get it to work, this worked for me and a few others ATIB 96 \n ATIIA 13 \n ATSH8113F1 \n ATSP A4 \n ATSW00

Great Diagnostics

Matt DJanuary 2024

I have had one of these for a couple of years now. Personally i use a different app to what was recomendedin the manual but the device works great. Easy to conect to the car and your phone. Live data can be viewed as well as diagnostic scans. I use this in a 2019 Pajero Sport and gain data such as live calculated boost, and other sensor data so great when i am towing to keep an eye on what is going on :)

Didn't connect with LeafSpy but...

SomeguyOctober 2026

Bought it to set a 2018 leaf. Didn't work directly with the LeafSpy app on my Android phone. I was able to connect it with other apps so it definitely worked. I was able to use Claude Code to connect to it though and pull the data about the battery. In the end I got what I was after but if you're looking to get the SOH from a leaf I'd be wary. Hopefully the app gets updated to support more of these devices.

Works perfectly with the "CarScanner" app on both IOS and Android, I have used it for many cars and never had an issue. just make sure your car supports OBD2.

I brought this a couple weeks ago, works well but depends on your vehicle to which application you have to use, I ended up downloading a random obd ii application instead of the recommended ones as they worked for my vehicles.

Great addition when towing

MarkJanuary 2026

Brought one of these over Xmas as I wanted to be able to monitor my Outlander while towing the caravan. I use it with the carscanner app on IOS as I found the Mini ODBII app was limited. I just upgraded the carscanner app for $15 one off payment and love it. My only minor issue was decipherig the vast number of outputs from it and my two cars that I use it in!!
