Great Value and Features

DaniSeptember 2025

Purchased this to assist with locating and troubleshooting RJ45 terminals. For the price it works well and is easy to use. The physical design is not as sturdy and robust as more expensive options such as Klein Tools however for the price it arguably offers more functionality including POE tester. The 9v battery takes a bit of fiddling to get seated however once in, it works absolutely fine. Definitely recommend it for one-off/casual jobs. If you need it for professional/commercial purposes then I'd recommend investing in a more robust unit such as offerings from Klein Tools or Jaycar's other model (XC5078).

Battery compartment too small

JohnNovember 2024

I bought this and used it two days later. The tolerances for the battery compartment are very tight. It was difficult enough to get the battery in, but then putting the cover on it was impossible. It was also very difficult to remove the battery. I took the back off the control unit before discovering that a flat bladed screwdriver at the corner of the end of the battery away from the terminals would do the trick. I changed brands of batteries to one that was thinner by about 0.5mm. It fitted although putting the cover on was a struggle and I needed that screwdriver to take it off again. It was also difficult to remove this new battery. Apart from that, it seemed to work, but although the RJ45 cable I tested showed up as good, when I moved my NBN modem onto end of this cable it failed to work correctly (so I had to revert to having the modem in the garage near the NBN connection box)..
