Nice multimeter for a nice price

bob27July 2024

Accidentally killed my meter and needed a new one, saw this at Jaycar for a good price and got it. It's auto-dimming backlight is very useful for working in the dark, and it is small and portable, however, it's accuracy isn't the best, especially at higher voltages, but that is expected for the price. Overall, a decent meter I would recommended to anyone needing a cheap multimeter.

No more Digitech multimeters for me.

Well, you get what you pay for. It is a relatively cheap multimeter, but next time I'll pay some more $ to get a better quality version. Plus, I won't get a Digitech again. This was my 2nd one - the 1st one was replaced within the warranty period as it just stopped working entirely. My 2nd one too has an issue whereby one of the LCD cells intermittently stops working such that I can't read one of the numbers accurately. Another general issue is that the battery holder is pretty poor. Some batterys' negative terminal (Energizer MAXPLUS in this example) actually catch on the negative terminal of the battery holder. Overall it seems to work OK, but this will be my last Digitech.

50 Vac too high on NZ main supply

KenrAugust 2026

I was checking for power and detected 280Vac on a light switch and wondered if my new solar system was playing up. My 30 year old cheap meter correctly read 230V. That's quite an inaccuracy. I'll pop into Jaycar tomorrow for a replacement and hopefully I can give them a review for excellent service!
