Rotary encoders are classified into two types: absolute and incremental. The absolute encoder reports the exact position of the knob in degrees, whereas the incremental encoder reports the number of increments the shaft has moved.
While rotating this module you can feel each “notch” which corresponds with one whole increment.

Missing documentation
Module looks ok but... Jaycar website has 0 documentation about this. The link to articles reveals nothing. The link to sample Arduino shields reveals nothing. No mounting nut is included, I had to order M7 x 0.75 half nut for almost the same cost as the module itself.
Great Service, Component worked as expected
Bought two weeks ago, was what I expected with another feature being the button. Arduino forums provided the base code for them, and they worked well. Customer service was great and helped me find everything I needed.
