Not worth it

Oz RangerJanuary 2026

Bought this headunit and installed it, no soldering required as I have a patch harness from my old headunit and it was plug and play. I immediately found that the android auto firmware was outdated on the unit and the firmware was from 2021. After reading through /R forums I found a link to Jaycar help page with a downloadable firmware update. I followed the instructions and installed the new firmware. The unit was working with android auto again. The next morning the unit started up with a black screen and I lost all function. I plugged the USB back in and after some time the unit started to update the firmware again however after halfway through the firmware install, the screen turned rainbow and the whole unit completely shut off. Gave it another 5 minutes and it booted up with all settings reset back to factory. The unit itself is extremely hot to touch and with no fan in the unit I suspect it's overheating and malfunctioning.

Android Auto Connection Issues - Firmware Update

MGN_TechNovember 2025

i have had this unit in my car for over 3 years and for the money is amazing value. Upgrading my phone I started to receive "Communication Error 7" and "The software does not pass Android security checks" when connecting Android Auto. To fix this you need to upgrade the firmware. Here is the Jaycar Support link for the update information. https://help.jaycar.com.au/hc/en-us/articles/50355885912217-QM3793-Android-Auto-Connection-Issues

Crashed and froze after 10-20 minutes into driving

Isaac03December 2025

I bought this media player a month ago and had to return it because it would work great for about 25 minutes into a drive using apple car play, and then out of nowhere it would freeze. The music would stop playing, the maps would freeze and I couldn’t even turn the unit off. And then about 5-10 minutes later it would crash and restart. But within this whole ordeal it would make my phone freeze and play up too. However, the unit worked perfectly fine just using Bluetooth, radio ect.. so if your not fused about having car play, then this unit is fine. And it’s actually a shame that it did this because I thought it was actually a neat little unit

Good value ruined by major safety issue

PeterSeptember 2025

At first, I was really happy with this head unit. For the price, it seemed like a solid deal—CarPlay worked smoothly, sound quality was decent, and installation wasn’t too much of a hassle. Unfortunately, that didn’t last long. Within the third week of use, the unit started smoking while driving, which was both alarming and dangerous. Thankfully I caught it before it became something worse, but needless to say, I had to disconnect it immediately. I later had the unit tested by a professional, who confirmed it was faulty. It’s disappointing because the value seemed great up front, but the build quality and reliability are clearly a huge issue. A product that poses a fire risk isn’t worth saving a few dollars on. Would not recommend unless the manufacturer addresses the safety concerns.

Good unit for the price, but I have random lockups

RichAOctober 2024

I have returned mine for a replacement due to random lock ups and restarts. The replacement also does this. I bought it for the Apple CarPlay, and it certainly does this well until it locks up. At first I thought it may have been my dodgy clip on wiring done to just test if it was a good buy, so I soldered the connections properly, and the lock ups still happen. The second unit seems to be a little less often, but its first lock up was 300m from my house. The unit will self restart after anything up to a couple of minutes, with an almighty thump to the speakers, or if I turn the car off and on it restarts without the thump. Once it's on, it works flawlessly, and I find the sound quality to be excellent. The auto antenna wire is actually the remote power on for an external amplifier, so your aerial will go up as soon as the unit is on for any function, so I've put an isolator in that as I don't want the aerial unless I'm listening to the radio, which is very rare.

Great unit, until recently

WerdnaSeptember 2025

I bought this unit a bit over a year ago and install was easy enough. I purchased this unit solely for the Android Auto functionality, however recently Android Auto has been updated to include security checks. As expected, this unit does not meet those checks and therefore Android Auto displays Communication Error 7. Hopefully the supplier can update the software to be supported.

Very happy with unit for the price.

TonyApril 2024

The unit was relatively easy to install as I was able to use existing brackets and ISO connectors the from old unit making the job quite easy and quick. The unit itself does exactly what I wanted. I'm sure the other features are great as well. Purchased online and delivery was very quick.
