Turbo functions breaks the iron

CaitlynJanuary 2024

This iron is functionally only a 20W unit for the price of a 40W one. The turbo function is only for heating the iron up quicker, if you hold it down for trying to solder ground planes, the iron will burn out.

The screws holding it together are not insulated from the heating tip so within a couple of minutes of switching the iron on they got so hot that they melted the plastic casing, screws fell out and the whole soldering iron came apart. Was told by Jaycar store that it was because it had been plugged in for too long. A 20w soldering iron should not melt within 2 minutes...

Failed too easily

DisappointedOctober 2026

I got this as an easily portable spare for the toolbox. It failed to heat after only a few hours of use, despite being careful not to hold the turbo button for more than about 15 sec at a time. Disappointing for hardly any use.

Good soldering iron

Donald TrumpAugust 2024

Easily replaceable tip, heats up quickly, and the turbo feature is pretty nice to have for quick power on. I have had this soldering iron for a few years now and still works like it was brand new

Turbo mode is awesome!

TownsgrNovember 2024

Exactly what i needed as current soldering iron couldn't melt any solder that I had on hand, but this soldering iron did the trick and it melted all the solder. So good job Jaycar!

Poor

Lasted 1 year then burnt out, replaced with same and that burnt out in less than year. Only buy if only using sparingly not for regular use.
