Poor performer

BigMacSeptember 2025

I bought this a couple of months ago to keep the battery of my ride-on mower topped up. I thought at 1.5W it would supply about 120 mA and keep it charged. It failed to do so. I measured the current at just 40 mA and the battery voltage before connection was 12.38 V and with the "charger" it rose to 12.41. At 12.8 volts and 40 mA the panel is supplying just 0.51 W. After jump starting from another 12V battery and mowing the lawn, letting the ride on stand for about 2 hours the voltage was 13.3V, which is not surprising. The charge current was under 20 mA. I hooked up a 12 V 3 W bulb for after all this is a 5w charger. It didn't even produce a glow yet on the battery of course it was bright. Clearly the 5W specification is woefully optimistic. BTW of course the panel output no-load voltage was about 19.8V. I have contemplated taking it back when I next go to the city

Over voltage - destroys batteries!

CowombatSeptember 2025

Bought this about 9 mths ago to trickle charge my new vehicle. The new 12v battery died completely when less than 12 months old and had to be replaced for $380. I checked the output of this charger. Was 20v!!! Way too high.

Hard to tell if it's working

ToBooteMay 2025

I bought this as I thought it allows hedged bets. It can charge via car lighter or attach direct to the battery points. The leaflet-style manual suggests some cars don't allow lighter-based charging as the lighter socket may not be active when the ignition is off. I checked that my phone charges via the lighter socket when the ignition is off, so let's assume that it will receive trickle charge from the panel. So 10 days into ownership, I've been religiously attaching jump leads to the battery terminal and leaving the panel in the sun. When I'm out and about, the panel is attached to the lighter socket. I'm not driving the car much, but it's still protesting that the battery is low on charge. The car battery is only a year old. Maybe I've just not trickle-charged enough to stop the car's protests. So my problem with the device is that there is no indicator to suggest that it is generating charge. I don't know if I'm wasting my time and have wasted my money. Quality-wise the panel seems to have an OK build quality.

Saves my caravan battery

LouRunJune 2025

This kept my caravan battery healthy while the van was in storage. It even works thru the van’s cover and I have it propped up against the window inside the van.
